Chapter 26
Chapter 26
After Ruan Xiang Ping left, Tang Xin Lian and Bai Shuli continued to take the lift down to the carpark. Just as Tang Xin Lian was bitterly mulling over the best way to fend off Bai Shuli's advances, Bai Shuli whispered into her ear. "If you're afraid that you're troubling me, why don't you take this place as your home?" As he was talking, he gently took her hand into his.
Surprised, she raised her head. She could see the deep affection reflected in his eyes. Her heart rolled in turmoil and shock.
Actually, from Bai Shuli's considerate behavior this evening, apart from being very polite and attentive, he also had a charm that went beyond physical attraction. Because of how polite he was, with his actions conforming to proper decorum and propriety, she could not find any reason to reject him. She could only remain polite and courteous.
It was only now when he held her hand and said this sentence, that his affections were revealed.
Tang Xin Lain knew that if she continued to keep mum, the situation would only worsen. As such, she gathered her courage to speak. "This...... Actually, Cheng Cheng and I are staying here already."
Bai Shuli was startled. After a while, he asked hesitantly, "Both of you live in this building?"
"Yes......"
He was stunned. And then he asked, surprised, "You are renting it?"
"Eh...... Actually, it is my boyfriend's apartment."
Since she told Bai Shuli that Cheng Cheng and her lived on the floor above him and that she already had a boyfriend, she received an interrogation call from Ruan Xiang Ping the next day. She had no choice but to spill everything.
As expected, she was harshly reprimanded by Ruan Xiang Ping who demanded to know why she wasn't told earlier. In fact, Xiang Ping was so angry that she almost broke off all relations with her. Tang Xin Lian kept speaking sweetly, persuading her. She had to let Ruan Xiang Ping scold her again for an hour before Xiang Ping's anger simmered off.
She thought that once Bai Shuli knew that she had a boyfriend, he would not bother her anymore. Who knew that he would still knock on her door to visit her everyday.
Today, he would say that he wanted to take his son to watch a movie. The next day, he would say that he wanted to bring his son to see an exhibition. The following day, he would then say he wanted to bring his son out to play.
Of course, he did not forget to politely invite her along. If she was willing, she would be more than welcome to join them.
To avoid arousing suspicion, Tang Xin Lian could only reject the offers. As such, she ended up eating her dinner alone every day. Once her son came home from school, he would be picked up by Bai Shuli. He was together with his father every day.
They were undeniably father and son. Cheng Cheng and his father grew closer every day. Tang Xin Lian could not prevent it. She could only give her blessings. Sometimes, when she saw Cheng Cheng's eyes full of hope and expectations, she couldn't not resist it and even had to cooperate by joining them.
She kept telling herself that these outings were all just to accompany her son. Besides Bai Shuli knew that she had a boyfriend. As such, he should not have any expectations towards her. Hence, she should be more open-minded and not think too deeply.
Since she could not be his lover, being his friend was also good. Because of this belief, the movements between the apartments upstairs and downstairs became more frequent. Even when Bai Shuli said that he wanted to participate in Cheng Cheng's class party, she also did not object. This was because she felt that it was only natural and did not think more about it.
It was not until the day that she was went to Cheng Cheng's class party that she began to regret her decision.
-----
AN: Regret. Keke. Just like always Xin Lian doesn't really think before she makes her decisions does she? You'll think that she would have learnt her lesson by now.
And I'm back :) Unfortunately, I wont be updating frequently due to real life commitments though I will still try my best to continue doing so. (With how long it has been, I honestly thought that someone else might have taken over the translations. But since no one else has then I will just continue updating slowly. Apologies in advance for the long wait.)
I hope everyone has been well during this COVID period. And thank you again to everyone who reads my translations.
