Chapter 16

His confession was direct and domineering, with no place for even the tiniest of negotiation. However, it was probably the most sincere words that Tang Xin Lian had ever heard from him ever since they met.

This man does not hide his desire for her body, likes to cook rice (1) on her bed, yet made a promise today to touch only her. Is it really possible?

Tang Xin Lian has always known, Zhong Zhengdong is an excellent man, deep and charismatic. Ever since they went overseas, she knew he was no simple figure.

Under his scorching gaze, she knew that if she does not express herself a little, he will not relent. This man wanted to hear her thoughts. He was very sincere and was not joking around.

She thought for a while and cautiously opened her mouth. "I have a condition. If you can agree to it, I am willing to try liking you."

Zhong Zhengdong's heart sinks and he hesitated for a moment before nodding his head. "Speak."

"Protect Cheng Cheng. Don't let him walk down the path of no return. Guarantee that he will always walk the right path and never break the law."

Zhong Zhengdong had thought she would ask for something huge, such as only being able to touch her only once a week, only being able to eat her up twice a month, or something similar. That's why his heart felt tangled earlier. Yet she had said such baffling words in the end.

"Break the law? Why would you believe that if Cheng Cheng followed me, he would walk the path of no return?"

She asked awkwardly, "Are you not a triad boss?".

Zhong Zhengdong was stunned by her words. Looking at the expression of the innocent and puzzled little white rabbit, he couldn't help but laugh.

Was there a mistake? She actually thought that he was a triad boss of the underworld? He kept expressing his goodwill towards her, showing her his elegance, tolerance, and strong financial resources. Yet, he was actually misunderstood by her? Till this day, there has not been a single woman who had thought he was part of the underworld. They only thought that he was an elegant gentleman or a mysterious rich man from a particular family.

Never had he imagined, for the first time after living for 35 years, there would be a day where he would be playing the piano to a cow (2). It was only now that he realised the main reason why the little rabbit kept rejecting him, was because she thought he was part of the underworld.

The arms industry does indeed tread a fine line between the black and white paths (3). However this does not mean it's part of the underworld. He is a well-behaved and law-abiding businessman. It is just that they frequently walk on the edge of political powers.

Sometimes, the government's powers are far more overbearing than the underworld. He just used a little trick to drive away the flies around her and taught Yuan Jun Hao a small lesson. Ever since then, he has been labelled by her as a triad boss. It is truthfully very awkward. Despite this, he is not in the least bit angry. In fact, he finds his little white rabbit very cute.

"People say that a difference of ten years results in a large generation gap. Now I finally understand this saying. Your brain actually thinks this way. Actually classifying me as a triad boss?"

"Are you not?"

"Of course not! What I do is a legal business." He stared at her lovingly, and gave her a general explanation about his business.

"You are an arms dealer?" Her eyes grew wide with surprise. She never imagined that his so called trade agency referred to arms. For her, this is no less surprising than him being in the triads.

"The arms trade is different from ordinary businesses. It is a bit more special. Some of it can be classified as nation secrets so I can't tell you much. This is for your own good. To be linked with any secrets of a nation is not easy. The less you know the better. You only need to know, your husband is doing the legal trade of arms dealing.

Up until now, he still likes to be called her husband. After being this pair of fake husband and wife for some time, it's going to become real soon. The only thing missing is their signatures and stamp.

The truth finally dawned upon Tang Xin Lian. That's why the pair of glasses he left in her house in the past was so similar to the surveillance function of 007's spy glasses (4), why he is so wealthy and why he seemed to be so powerful. Once she heard his confirmation, she felt like a huge burden had been lifted off her shoulders.

"Are you reassured now? I am not part of the underworld. Cheng Cheng will also not walk the path of no return."

Tang Xin Lian looked to the ground in embarrassment. "Yes. I feel much more reassured."

"Then what is your answer?"

(1) Cook rice: Derived from the proverb to turn raw rice cooked. Meaning to have sex.

(2) Playing piano to a cow: Telling someone something which went over their head entirely. Telling someone things they cannot appreciate

(3) The black and white paths: The paths of light and darkness; justice and corruption; legal and illegal

(4) 007 is the codename of James Bond.
